9. Mary Lou Retton

Retton was the first American gymnast to win an Olympic all around gold medal.

Why Her: Retton claimed five medals during the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles, including gold for the women’s all around competition,two silver medals for the team and vault competitions and two bronze medals for the uneven bars and floor exercise.

Ultimate Moment: Retton sealed her gold fate when she vaulted her way to a perfect 10 at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angelesand became the female gymnast outside Eastern Europe to win the all around competition.
