Alpine championships begin today

STOWE — The Mount Mansfield Union High School girls Alpine team will aim for its third straight title at today’s state championships in Stowe.
Ali Chivers and Lucy Harrington, both of whom won individual titles at Northern districts last week, lead a deep Cougars squad. Giant slalom kicks off competition at 9:15 a.m., followed by two runs of slalom, the second of which is slated for 1:45 p.m.

Stowe coach Nick Cradall is hoping to challenge Mount Mansfield’s firstplace finish at districts. Cradall said that “Brooke Wells and Ali Leach are two skiers to watch out for” at the girls state championships.
MMU is also a contender at the boys state meet, which will commence Wednesday at Okemo. Burr and Burton won last year’s crown.
District winner Tristan Palola (slalom) and Kyle Polson (GS) are two of MMU’s top skiers.
