American Legion roundup: 76ers stop Chutes 5-0

Austin Klaverkamp tossed a two-hitter to lead the St. Cloud 76ers to a 5-0 win over the St. Cloud Chutes on Monday night at Dick Putz Field.

Bryant Bohlig had two hits and an RBI for the 76ers (6-2 St. Cloud Sub-District, 8-5 overall) in the St. Cloud Sub-District VI American Legion baseball game.

Brindley Theisen, Logan Schramel and Andy Lenzmeier pitched for the Chutes (2-2 St. Cloud Sub-District, 5-2 overall). Waylon Bemboom and Steve Neutzling had St. Cloud’s hits.

The Chutes are host to St. Joseph at 7 tonight at Joe Faber Field.

LITTLE FALLS 6, ST. CLOUD 76ERS 2

Junior right-hander Kyle Boser tossed a three-hitter, allowing one earned run, striking out eight and walking three, to lead Little Falls (5-2 St. Cloud Sub-District, 7-4 overall) to the win at Dick Putz Field.

Collin Eckman went 2-for-2 with a triple and walk and Matt Stumpf and Brice Zawatzke were each 2-for-3 for Little Falls, which is host to Sartell at 6:15 p.m. today at Flyer Field.

SARTELL 6, SAUK RAPIDS 2

SARTELL – Senior left-hander Grant Mackenthun got the complete-game win, striking out nine, walking none and scattering seven hits for Sartell (7-2, 9-5).

Mackenthun also went 1-for-3 with two RBI.

Also for Sartell, Blake Guggenberger was 2-for-4 with two runs, Bo Schmitz was 2-for-3 and Jake Wenzel was 1-for-3 with two RBI.

For Sauk Rapids, Tyler Long was 2-for-4 with a solo home run in the fourth.

COLD SPRING 7, BECKER 2

COLD SPRING – Sam Schlangen was 3-for-3 with an RBI, Blake Holbrook was 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI and Marshal Wirtzfeld was 2-for-3 to lead Cold Spring (4-0). Adam Dingmann got the win.

WAITE PARK 8, ST. JOSEPH 2

ST. JOSEPH – Bryan Benson went 2-for-2 with a run and two RBI and Marcus Brunn was 2-for-4 with two RBI to lead Waite Park to the win at Schneider Field.

D.J. Smith and Dallas Haugen combined for the pitching win.

Smith got the win, going the first four innings and allowing one run.

Haugen pitched the final three, also allowing a run.

Alex Abdella was 2-for-2 with a run for St. Joseph.

ELK RIVER 2, ST. AUGUSTA 0

ELK RIVER – Brandon Voigt pitched a complete game for St. Augusta in its St. Cloud Sub-District loss.

Voigt allowed six hits and one earned run for St. Augusta (1-8), which is host to Big Lake at 6:15 p.m. Thursday.

Eric Primus singled in the third inning for St. Augusta’s lone hit.

BIG LAKE 4, ZIMMERMAN 2

BIG LAKE – Ethan Hunt threw a five-hitter and was 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Big Lake (1-6). Hunt struck out four and did not walk a batter.

PAYNESVILLE 11, ROYALTON 0, 5 INNINGS

PAYNESVILLE – Josh Bungum was 2-for-3 with a three-run homer in the third and Blake Karsch gave up one hit over four innings to get the win for Paynesville. Karsch struck out eight and walked one.

Caleb Burris was 2-for-3, Jordan Roos was 2-for-3 with an RBI and Nathan Meyer was 3-for-3 with two RBI for Paynesville (8-0).

FOLEY 14, ALBANY 0, 5 INNINGS

AVON – Mike Plante threw a three-hit shutout and Mitch Keehler was 4-for-4 to lead Foley to the win.

Plante struck out three and did not walk a batter. Joe Ziwicki and Coleman Strosahl had two hits apiece for Foley.

Carter Holthaus had a double for Albany (6-5 Melrose Sub-District, 10-9 overall).

BBE 13, KIMBALL 1

KIMBALL – Brian Goodwin was 3-for-4 with two runs and a double and Austin Imdieke was 3-for-5 with a walk, a double, two RBI and three runs scored to lead Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa.

James Kuefler got the complete-game win, striking out nine and allowing five hits and one earned run.

For Kimball, starter Joey Von Wahlde struck out 13 in six innings.

BBE scored three in the sixth and seven in the seventh.
