AMHERST – The Amherst girls basketball team was in control from the start and cruised to a 60-30 WIAA Division 4 regional championship victory over Wild Rose on Saturday. seven rebounds six steals, six assists

The Falcons had a balanced attack with Marisa Loken controlling the paint with 15 points and six rebounds, while point guard Jaimee Pitt did a bit of everything with 12 points, seven rebounds six assists and six steals.

Amherst moves on to the sectional semifinal, squaring off with Oconto on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at a site to be determined.

“This is my first (regional title) as a head coach which is exciting,” Amherst coach Jay Pitt said. “It’s a good day to be a Falcon (Amherst boys team advanced to state earlier in the day). Exciting day all the way around. We controlled the game and turned them over early. We executed the entire game and Marisa was outstanding in the post.”

OWEN – Aleyna Goerlitz scored 23 points and the Owen-Withee girls basketball team ratcheted up the defense after the opening eight minutes and cruised to a WIAA Division 5 regional final victory on Saturday.

The Blackhawks face Eau Claire Immanuel Lutheran in a sectional semifinal Thursday at 7 p.m. in Rice Lake.

Goerlitz went over the 1,000-point in the game.

Thorp made four field goals in the first quarter, but the Blackhawks held the Cardinals to just five made shots over the final 24 minutes.
