The Atwater High School (Atwater, Calif.) junior varsity football team gave their fans something special to cheer about last Friday night.
The team helped their teammate, sophomore Alex Zapien, score a touchdown – in his wheelchair.
The Falcons have found ways to help Zapien – who has cerebral palsy – feel like part of the team during his two years at Atwater, such as making him an honorary team captain, and now this.
“We thought it would be good to get Alex involved; he’s our teammate,” sophomore Cameron Pacheco told the Merced Sun-Star. “We feel like if Alex was capable of playing, he would be out there playing with us. It’s not his fault that he can’t play.”
