GRAND RAPIDS (WZZM) The Northview Wildcats finally did it in 2012. The Wildcats won seven regular season games, their most since 1977, and qualified for the state playoffs for the first time ever.
“I was super excited,” says senior safety Will Izera. “I’ve never felt anything like this. I’m just ready to keep the tradition going on. Starting now. We did it last year, now we’ve got to do it again.”
It might be tougher in 2013 for Northview. Second-year head coach Greg Ganfield says he likes the talent he has on the team. He just wishes there was more of it. “The kids have come out with a good attitude. We’ve hadgood tempo at practice. We’d like to have a few more players in our program but the guys who are here are very well prepared. We’re going to be a little bit younger this year. But the goals are always the same. You always come out with the intention of winning your conference, making the playoffs and doing a little damage once you get there.”
Northview opens the season against Byron Center, a team that handed the Wildcats one of their two regular season losses last year.
