Senior Garrett Applegate got Toms River South off to a tremendous start with his pin at 152 pounds as the top-seeded Indians defeated No. 4-seed Cherry Hill West, 57-9, in an NJSIAA South Jersey Group III semifinal Wednesday night.
Applegate’s pin was one of seven for the Indians (22-3) and the Indians also got a technical fall victory (21-6, 4:38) from Marvin Hayden at 220 pounds. Sophomore Joe Salvato also gained a big victory over Mike Marini, who was 25-3 coming into the match. Salvato won via a 7-2 decision to improve his record to 27-1.
BRICK MEMORIAL 58, EAST BRUNSWICK 11: The top-seeded Mustangs (21-2) lived up to their billing, ousting the No. 3 Bears in a Central Jersey Group IV semifinal.
Brick Memorial’s Tyler Richardson bested Samuel Kim by technical fall (4:23, 16-0) at 170 in the night’s third bout, starting a run of 10 wins by the Mustangs.
Also posting wins were Connor Owen (182), Nicholas Costa (195), Matt Moore (220), Tyler Poling (heavyweight), Luke Vescovi (106), Connor Maliff (113), Joseph Ghione (120), Jose Bocalman (126) and Jared Staub (132).
BRICK 38, NORTHERN BURLINGTON 31: The top-seeded Green Dragons (16-5) advanced to the Central Jersey Group III championship match with a win over the No. 5 Greyhounds.
Scoring pins for the Green Dragons were Connor Mulligan (113), Kyle Wojtaszek (126), Steven Cimmino (145), Dan Wojtaszek (170) and Anthony Dzugan (195).
DELAWARE VALLEY 31, RARITAN 30: Alex Niemann’s win at 152 gave the No. 2 Terriers a win over the No. 3 Rockets (20-7) in a Central Jersey Group II semifinal.
Niemann decisioned Ryan Polonsky, 5-3.
Raritan’s Ryan Broderick pinned Jake Moore in 5:15 at 113. Raritan’s Tyler Sookdeo pinned Austin McLaughlin in 25 seconds at 145.
DELSEA 51, BARNEGAT 12: The No. 4 Bengals (13-11) were ousted by the top-seeded Crusaders in South Group II.
Barnegat’s winners were Matt Frigon (220), Jeffery DeLuise (106) and Nick Fogarty (113).
SOUTHERN 43, TR NORTH 15: The top-seeded Rams got pins from Pat Mooney (120), Nick Racanelli (138) and Connor Case (182) and a major decision from Chris Sercico (152) in their South Jersey Group IV victory over the Mariners. Toms River North’s Nick Tardibuono pinned at 145 and David Mitchell won a 7-4 decision over Patrick Ferraro at 195.
