Appleton North boys run to Bay Port cross country title


The Appleton North boys’ cross country team placed three runners in the top 10 and went on to finish with 42 points in winning the Bay Port Pirate Invitational on Thursday in Howard.

The Lightning’s Tanner Daines won the boys’ race with a time of 16:48; 29 seconds ahead of second-place Sam Bianchi of Two Rivers.

Andrew Johnson and Will Shockey finished sixth and seventh, respectively, for the Lightning.

The girls’ race was won by Two Rivers with 45 points, 12 points better than the second-place Appleton North squad.

Oshkosh Lourdes’ Nora Keller won the girls’ race in 15:21, five seconds faster than Appleton North’s Lauren Farina.

Appleton East 3, Kimberly 1

At Appleton, the Patriots remained unbeaten in conference play at 4-0 with a 21-25, 25-21, 25-16, 25-12 win over the Papermakers.

Kenzie Wockenfus led the Patriots with 31 assists. The Patriots had three players with double digit digs with Emily Habeck (20), Megan Schweitzer (14) and Nicole Coenen (13). Mak Morgen had 20 kills for the Patriots.

Oshkosh West 3, Kaukauna 2

At Kaukauna, the Wildcats rallied for a 25-19, 12-25, 16-25, 25-20, 15-9 victory.

Taylor Ball paced Kaukauna with 27 assists, 15 digs and two blocks, while McKenzie Dahlin added 17 digs, eight kills and six aces.

Neenah 3, Oshkosh North 0

At Oshkosh, the third-ranked Rockets overpowered the Spartans 25-13, 25-14, 25-12.

Kauri Jensen led the Rockets with 10 kills, while Bailey LaMarche had 17 assists. Haley Barnes nearly had a double-double for the Rockets, finishing with nine kills and nine digs.

Xavier 3, Ripon 0

At Appleton, the Hawks improved to 3-0 in conference play with a 25-22, 25-17, 25-15 win over the Tigers, who fell to 2-1.

McKenzie Calmes had 22 assists for the Hawks, while Kayla Gresl and Grace Schlicht had 13 digs and 11 kills, respectively.

New London 3, Seymour 2

At Seymour, Pedro ReisDaSilva scored the game-winner at the 65:55 mark to lift the Bulldogs over the Thunder.

Hunter Sullivan and Ryan Malliet also scored for New London (2-3 in the Bay), while Kyle Wesolowski and John Powless scored for Seymour (0-4 Bay).

At De Pere, Osvaldo Ramirez netted both goals to lead the Phantoms to the win over the Polar Bears in a game halted due to lightning at halftime.

At Berlin, Ryan Sondalle and Alex Vang scored in the first half for the Indians in a match that was called at halftime due to lightning.
