South Salem 4, Beaverton 1: Jordan Knoll struck out 17 of 25 Beaver batters and allowed just three hits to key the Saxons’ road win on Tuesday.
Gabe Matthews had a two-run single in the third inning to highlight South Salem’s three-run third to break a 1-1 tie. Jack Gries drove in the other run in the third and finished with two hits.

Oregon State 7, Portland 5: Jerad Casper, Danny Hayes and Jake Rodriguez each had two RBIs as the Beavers beat the Pilots.
Rodriguez hit a two-run home run to highlight a four-run seventh inning for OSU. The Beavers led 7-2 at that point, but Portland scored three in the ninth to make things interesting.
OSU takes on UCLA in a weekend series beginning Friday.

Oregon: Ducks freshman Cole Irwin has been named National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Week.
Irvin tossed a complete-game shutout Saturday in Oregon’s 6-0 win against Washington. Irvin allowed four hits and one walk while striking out 11.
Oregon State: Tickets are now available for the Beavers’ matchup against Portland at 5:30 p.m. May 8 at Volcanoes Stadium in Keizer.

Corban 12, Willamette 5: Nate Williams had three hits and Lance Foster, Jordan Johansen and Landon Frost each had two hits as the Warriors claimed the road win against the Bearcats.
Hunter Gallant and Ben Peterson each had two hits for Willamette in the loss.
Mt. Hood 4-2, Chemeketa 3-5: The Storm split wins at home against the Saints. During game one, West Salem standout Cole Pittman went 3 for 4 with a triple.
Stanford 7-8, Oregon State 0-6: The Beavers dropped two games at home to the Cardinal and are 0-5 in Pac-12 play.
Desiree Beltran hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the sixth inning of game two to score in Ashley Sanchez and Elizabeth Santana for Oregon State.
Despite the 3-0 lead, Stanford was able to edge the Beavers.
Oregon State will host the finale of the three-game series at noon today.
Corban: The Warriors moved up to No. 8 in the latest NAIA poll.
Corban (28-8) have the best 36-game record in school history. The Warriors rank first in the nation in home runs per game with 1.44.
Western Oregon: Wolves coach Greg Bruce has announced that he is retiring at the end of his current contract, effective June 30.
Bruce is calling it quits after 22 years of coaching at the collegiate level, including the last seven years at WOU. His collegiate record is 346-265.
All told, Bruce has spent 45 seasons coaching at the high school, college and professional levels.
Spring league: Salem Volleyball Association is registering teams for upcoming adult recreational volleyball spring leagues.
Coed and women’s leagues will be offered.
The season starts Monday and runs through June 11. Registration is available online at salemvolleyball.org.
