Girls Basketball: Patriots open conference schedule with victory

PLEASANT HILL, Ohio – Tri-Village opened its Cross County Conference schedule with a 42-34 victory over Newton Tuesday.

“We’re always glad to get the win,” Tri-Village coach Brad Gray said. “We struggled most of the evening, but right now we’re just finding ways. The last two games we’ve had deficits in the fourth quarter, but we’re finding ways.”

Ecko Brown scored 11 points to lead the Patriots (3-0, 1-0), while Krystal Falknor had nine and Heather Ferris added eight.

The Patriots play Saturday at Bethel.

Trail wins CCC opener

NEW PARIS, Ohio – Kate Deaton scored 16 points and Paetyn Laird had 11 as National Trail won its CCC opener Tuesday 58-27 over Twin Valley South.

“It’s nice to get the first win. We came out a little sloppy, but we came out better in the second half,” Blazers coach Troy Ferguson said.

National Trail (1-1, 1-0) plays next Tuesday at home against Coldwater.

Boys Swimming: Milan tops Tigers

Hagerstown fell 84-53 Monday to Milan, but the Tigers had a strong showing with just five swimmers.

Alec Hicks won the 50-yard freestyle, Eli Reagan took the 100 butterfly, Beau Wales won the 500 and the Tigers also won the 200 freestyle relay event.

Hagerstown winners:

50 freestyle- Hicks (HAG). 100 butterfly- Reagan (HAG). 500 freestyle-Wales (HAG). 200 freestyle relay- Hagerstown.

Girls Swimming: Hagerstown wins opener

Hagerstown defeated Milan 103-66 in the season opening meet Monday.

Hayley Hollenberg (50 freestyle, 100 freestyle) won two individual events for the Tigers, while Amelia Dick (100 butterfly) and Hannah Tollett (backstroke) each won one. The Tigers also had relay victories in the 200 medley relay and the 200 freestyle relay.

Hagerstown winners:

200 medley relay- Hagerstown. 50 freestyle- Hollenberg (HAG). 100 butterfly- Dick (HAG). 100 freestyle- Hollenberg (HAG). 200 freestyle relay- Hagerstown. 100 backstroke- Tollett (HAG). 100 breaststroke- Hellwarth (HAG).

Wrestling: Bulldogs beat Monroe

CENTERVILLE, Ind. – Luke Markley (113), Javon Phillips (126), Dakota Tipton (138), Mitchell Burelison (152), Joey Hale (160), Randy Jordan (170) and Isaac Creigmile (285) all won their matches by fall Tuesday as Centerville defeated Monroe Central 63-18 on Armed Forces night.

Isaiah Michaels (132) also won for the Bulldogs, by a 12-6 decision.

Centerville travels to the Lincoln 6-way Dec. 7.

Middle School Basketball: Dogs sweep Tri

Dante Torres scored 14 points and Dylan Benedict added 10 as Centerville defeated Tri 39-37 in seventh-grade basketball action.

Peyton Hobson had nine.

Nolan Witte scored 15 points to lead the eighth-graders over to a 41-38 victory.

Cody Witham added eight points that game, while Braden Wandersee added seven.

Centerville plays host Dec. 4 to New Castle.

Pats win twice

Mook Shepler scored 21 points Tuesday as Union County defeated Randolph Southern 61-19 in seventh-grade action, while Mason Miller’s 13 led the eighth-graders to a 52-20 victory over the Rebels.

Blake Fields added 12 for the Union County seventh grade, while Tyler Osborne and Ryan Hensley added 10 apiece and Alex Wiggington’s seven led Randolph Southern.

For the eighth-graders, Derek Dearth added nine and Jaden Retter and Michael Seymour had six each for the Rebels.

Both Union County teams are 2-0.
