GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lapel tops Lincoln

LAPEL, Ind. – Lapel defeated Lincoln 53-43 on Friday.

Tayler Pennington scored 13 points to lead the Golden Eagles, while Jordan Bryant added 10.

“It was a better game,” said Lincoln coach John Lewellen. “We came back in the third quarter and took the lead. They just made a spurt on us. We didn’t answer that spurt back.

“The girls made improvements. As long as we are making improvements, we’ll be all right.”

The Golden Eagles (0-2) play host tonight to Shenandoah.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Tigers win

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. – Hayley Rogers hit the game-winning free throw with 12.2 seconds left as Hagerstown won its second straight by halting Monroe Central 41-40 on Friday.

Rogers finished with 22 points and nine rebounds. Gabby Willis scored 10 for the Tigers.

Hagerstown trailed 20-8 after one quarter, but cut the deficit to 22-21 at halftime. The Tigers outscored the Golden Bears 14-5 in the final quarter.

“The effort was tremendous,” said Hagerstown coach Chris Oliger.

Hagerstown travels Wednesday to TEC foe Winchester. The Tigers’ game against Daleville, originally scheduled for tonight, has been moved to Dec. 12 at Hagerstown.

CONNERSVILLE, Ind. – Connersville defeated Centerville 49-30 on Friday.

Makayla McFarland scored 15 points to lead the Bulldogs (1-2), who play tonight at Knightstown.

“I thought we improved a lot on things we’ve been working on,” said Centerville coach Jason Searcy. “I’d like to see them go out and compete and continue to improve. It’s a big matchup for us with a sectional opponent.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Falcons fall to Titans

STRAUGHN, Ind. – Tri High defeated defending TEC champion Winchester 44-20 on Friday in the conference opener for both teams.

Delaney Miller led the Falcons with 15 points and nine rebounds. Tri improved to 3-0, 1-0.

Winchester (0-2, 0-1) plays host tonight to Jay County.

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Eagles advance to final

GREENVILLE, Ohio – Eaton had three in double figures Friday as the Eagles opened its season with a 71-25 victory over Greenville in the Annie Oakley Shootout.

Autumn Whirley led all scorers with 20 points, while Danielle Karns netted 15 and Julia Titus added 12. Karns finished with a double-double by pulling down 15 rebounds.

Eaton plays in the championship game tonight.

“It was really good. We need that,” Eaton coach Gary Peffly said of opening with the win.

“I was very happy. We’re definitely not where we want to be, but for the first game I was quite pleased.”

GIRLS BASKETBALL: Patriots win in tourney

NEW MADISON, Ohio – Lexi Bruner scored 12 points as Tri-Village opened its season with a 53-41 victory over Ansonia in the opening round of Tri-Village’s Bill Burkett Tournament.

The Patriots (1-0) will play Arcanum in today’s tournament championship after the Trojans beat Franklin Monroe.

Ecko Brown, Heather Ferris and Danika Mann each scored seven points, while Raya Mikesell and Krystal Falknor had six.

“We were fortunate to get the win,” Tri-Village coach Brad Gray said. “I think Ansonia came out with a little more intensity than we did, fortunately we were able to hold on and come out with the win.”
