Tigers take TEC win

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. — Hagerstown moved to 2-0 in the TEC with Thursday’s 9-0 win over Winchester.
Bryan Mathews earned the pitching victory with 10 strikeouts in six innings. Tyler Funkhouser went 3-for-4 to power the Tiger offense, and swatted a home run to go with four RBIs.
Mathews added three hits, while Chris Stevens, Brandon Arnett and Kodie Houghton also had RBIs.
Hagerstown travels Saturday to Tri High for another TEC game.

Patriots win

UNION CITY, Ind. — Gehrig Shepler struck out 12 over a five-inning complete game and Ryan Abbott went 2-for-4 with two runs scored as Union County moved to 2-0 in the TEC with a 12-1 victory over Union City.
Bryce Fields homered for the Patriots (7-2), while Brandon Himes, Hunter Hartman and Isaak Snyder each doubled.
Leo Casillas homered for Union City.

Maples earns 200th

NEW MADISON, Ohio — Tri-Village coach Jim Maples reached a milestone Thursday as his Patriots took a 9-7 victory from CCC foe Twin Valley South.
Maples earned his 200th career victory. He is in his 22nd season at Tri-Village.
“I love the game of baseball, and I’m glad all 200 are at Tri-Village,” Maples said.
Tyler Cook earned the pitching victory and went 2-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate for the Pats, while Tanner Maples went 2-for-4 with three runs scored and Haedon Schlechty had two hits and two RBIs.
Tri-Village (9-3, 3-1) travel tonight to CCC foe Arcanum.

Softball

Honkomp throws perfect game

UNION CITY, Ind. — Lauren Honkomp threw a five-inning perfect game Thursday night as Centerville opened its TEC schedule with a 19-0 road victory at Union City.
Honkomp had eight strikeouts and faced 15 batters. She threw 57 pitches, 47 of them for strikes.
The freshman also had a very productive night at the plate, going 4-for-4 with six RBIs and an in-the-park home run.
Alexis Cox had three RBIs for Centerville, as did Kayla Miller. Amanda Wilson drove in three runs.
The Bulldogs (3-1, 1-0) play Hagerstown on Saturday in the opening round of the Wayne County Tournament.

MUNCIE, Ind. — Willie Eviston shot 38 and Spencer Shore 39 as Union defeated Hagerstown 173-196 Wednesday in the Tigers’ season opener at Maplewood Golf Course. Hagerstown’s Ben Tinkle also had 39 to lead the Tigers, while Jonathan Clark had 49.

NEW CASTLE, Ind. — Peyton Young won at No. 1 singles, Katy Robinson at No. 2 singles and Kaitlin Kramer and Kaitlyn Harrison teamed up to win No. 2 doubles as Richmond teamed up to defeat New Castle 3-2 Thursday.
Richmond (2-0) hosts the Richmond Invitational Saturday.

Gallego, Yandl, Keith Rose and Stephen Scruggs teamed up to win the 3,200 relay, while Scripture, Sandlin, Elijah Wagers and Jacob Austerman teamed up to win the 400 relay.
Mason Wine (100, 200) and Alex Shimp (long jump, 300 hurdles) each won two events for the Indians, while Brandon Journay (110 hurdles) won one.

Richmond defeated National Trail 11-3 on Thursday.
Crissenda Caballero doubled for the Red Devils, while Sadie Hemingway went 2-for-3. Keryn Siler had 10 strikeouts for RHS (4-0).

Middle school track

Patriots sweep

Union County defeated Northeastern and Seton Catholic in boys track, talliying 69 points to 47 for the Knights and 9 for the Cardinals.
Union County also won the girls meet with 63 points to 44 for Seton and 19 for Northeastern.

Middle school golf

Cardinals split

Michael Haber shot 54 as Seton Catholic defeated Eastern Hancock 255-268 Wednesday.
Spencer Lanman shot 64 for the Cardinals, Matt Moore 67 and Mallory Kern 70. Seton fell to Union County 216-255 on Thursday. Haylee King shot 49 for Union County.
