Boys basketball: Patriots down Wildcats

BROOKVILLE, Ind. – Trey Hannebaum hit 8-of-8 free throws in the fourth quarter as Union County defeated Franklin County 52-48 on Saturday.

Hannebaum hit 12-of-12 free throws overall and finished with 17 points. Braden Norris added 12 points and Kory Finch 11 for the Patriots.

Union County (7-4) plays host Saturday to Eastern Hancock.

Boys basketball: Blazers fall

BROOKVILLE, Ohio – Devin Mize netted 15 points to lead National Trail on Saturday, but the Blazers fell 49-38 to Brookville.

National Trail earned its first victory of the season Friday, 39-35 over Ansonia.

“It’s been a tough season but our teammates have continued to work hard,” head coach Mike Bradley said by phone.

“We got it done defensively, played four strong quarters. When you’re 0-9 going into the game, it’s sometimes hard to keep working, but our kids have done a good job coming to practice every day and going back to work.”

Corey Harmon led the Blazers with 11 points, while Devin Mize added 10.

The Blazers (1-10) play host Friday to Tri-Village

Girls basketball: Patriots suffer 1st loss

CASSTOWN, Ohio – Cross County Conference leading Miami East handed Tri-Village its first loss of the season 51-44 on Saturday.

The Patriots fell to 10-1 and 5-1 in the CCC.

Teha Richards led the Patriots with 13 points, Krystal Falknor added 12, Ecko Brown 10 and Shaye Thomas nine.

Tri-Village plays Thursday at Tri-County North.

Girls basketball: Eagles top Brookville

BROOKVILLE, Ohio – Eaton defeated Brookville 67-39 on Saturday, improving to 4-2 in the SWBL Southwestern Division.

The Eagles had 16 assists as a team as every player scored.

Danielle Karns led the way with 18 points, Autumn Whirley added 14, Libby Springmier and Elizabeth Tolliver each added nine, Kasey Titkemeyer had six, Julia Titus four and Michelle McKinney three.

McKinney was the leading rebounder with eight.

“I’m really proud of the entire team,” Eaton coach Gary Peffly said by phone. “We played eight players and I thought all eight played outstanding.”

The Eagles play Monday at Twin Valley South.

JV basketball: Tigers take county title

FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind. – Austin Durham scored 19 points and Zach Davis added 10 for Hagerstown on Saturday as the Tigers claimed the Wayne County Tournament title in boys basketball with a 44-38 win over Northeastern.

Shane Stiner and Robert Smith each scored 10 points for the Knights in the championship game.

Hagerstown halted Centerville 33-25 in the first game to advance, while Northeastern stopped Lincoln 42-31.
