Middle Tennessee Christian School baseball swept Fayetteville City in a doubleheader Monday to clinch the District 9-A title. The Cougars (19-7-1, 12-2) won 4-3 in game one and 11-0 in five innings in the second contest.
Pitchers Peyton Buckner and Philip Bonabi earned the wins. Bonabi had a home run and double on the day. Lawson Pitts (three hits, three runs), Lucas Smith (3-3 in game two), Brent Hofbauer (3 RBIs), Joe Warner (1 RBI), Taylor Sanders (1 RBI), Justin Winn (1 RBI) and Austin Melton (two hits in game one) paced the offense on Senior Day.
Central 4, Smith Co. 0
Will Norfleet pitched a gem to carry Central Magnet baseball to a win over Smith County.
Norfleet (2-0) struck out 10 in a complete-game shutout. Colt Flippo hit a solo home run in the fourth inning. Tyler Egawa and Barek Sargent added two hits each.
Central (17-14, 9-2) will play host to Smith County Tuesday with a win clinching the District 8-AA title.
Blackman 5, Shelbyville 1
Hunter Martin allowed one run on one hit in three innings. Alex Brown went 4-for-4 with three walks and one RBI. Logan Fleener, Grayson Bowman and Cori Richards had an RBI double apiece.
Oakland 8, Franklin 3
Rhett Stacey went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. Alex Ward had two hits and two runs scored. Justin Wilson also had two hits. Sam McKinstry pitched four scoreless innings for the victory.
Smyrna 5, Independence 3
Connor Boyd pitched the final two innings of relief to earn the win. He also went 3-for-5 from the plate. Beau Brewer had a key RBI single in the seventh.
Eagleville 2, Moore Co. 1
Christian Hill tossed two shutout innings of relief for the win. Chris Tompkins had two hits. Tyler Vandagriff had a solo home run.
Siegel, Oakland win county titles
Siegel boys and Oakland girls won the Rutherford County Middle School Championships.
Siegel’s boys shot 185, edging Stewarts Creek (186). Sheldon Barina (Stewarts Creek) won the individual title with a 40. Kyle Hanna (Siegel) placed second with a 41. Branson Beech (Stewarts Creek), Harris Adcock (Siegel) and Braxton McGill (Siegel) rounded out the top five.
Oakland’s girls shot 94 to beat runner-up Christiana (106). Jessie Eaton (Oakland) beat Emma Tenpenny (Oakland) in a playoff after both shot 47. Caitlin Davis (Christiana), Kalysta Gonzalez (Rock Springs) and Mary Tod Newberry (Rockvale) placed third through fifth, respectively.
MTCS 5, Marshall Co. 0 (boys)
Mark Claiborne, Kip Kahler, Thomas Goodwyn, Reed Siler and Jared Glidden swept the singles matches for MTCS.
Marshall Co. 5, MTCS 2 (girls)
Chandler Adams/Jenna Hixon won 8-5 at No. 1 doubles, and Julian Peters/Mary Beth Brannon claimed an 8-1 victory at No. 2 for MTCS.
