Area Roundup: Riverdale beats Blackman in volleyball


The Riverdale volleyball team defeated Blackman 25-23, 21-25, 25-14, 25-19 during a match Tuesday night.

Riverdale improved to 20-7 (5-1 District 7-AAA) with the win.

Kirsten Inman recorded 50 assists while Jena Goodman led the Lady Warriors with 16 service points. Rachel Vehr led the team in kills with 17 and blocks (four). Beth Sullivan added 18 digs in the win.

Blackman’s Rebecca Kirk finished with three aces and eight kills, while Kelsey Phillips added four kills and nine blocks.

Jade Abbott finished with five kills, Danielle Ged added eight kills and nine blocks, while Jess Oliver finished with 21 assists and two blocks for the Lady Blaze too.

MTCS 3, Lancaster 0: The Lady Cougars won 25-12, 26-24, 25-19 for the straight-set win.

Rachel Mullen led the team with 13 assists, while Emma Self recorded 11 assists too.

Morgan Mason added nine kills and McKenzie McKnight added eight kills.



Smyrna 158, Blackman 159, Riverdale 175: Bulldogs senior Zach Haynes shot a 2-under par 34 during an abbreviated nine-hole match at Champions Run to earn low-medalist honors and help his team to the district win.

Josh Chalfant (39) and Jacob Forester (43) also contributed for Smyrna in the one-shot win.

Blackman’s Josh Bunch shot a 36 and Tanner Owens shot a 37 to lead the Blaze. Others contributing for BHS were Jacob Bunch (43) and Andrew Davis (43).

Cole Clear was Riverdale’s low medalist by shooting a 42

Central Magnet 158, DeKalb County 164: Central’s Colton Miller shot a 37 to lead the Tigers to the win. T.C. Hayes (40), Logan Reynolds (40) and Jordan Reynolds (41) also contributed for Central.

DeKalb County’s Ethan Roller was the day’s low-medalist with an even-par 36. John Roller also shot 38 for DeKalb County.


Central Magnet 81, DeKalb County 88: Abbey Burgdorf (40) and Lexi Marshall (41) combined to lead the Lady Tigers to the win. Allie Sullivan shot 37 and was the day’s low-medalist for DeKalb County.

Middle School


Oakland 24, Rockvale 6: Troy Hudson scored on a 10-yard run in the first quarter and Cameron Snelling added the two-point conversion.

Snelling added a 3-yard touchdown run in the second quarter to make it 16-0. Mason Loupe scored on an 11-yard run to give Oakland a 24-0 lead. The Patriots converted all three two-point attempts too.
