Area Roundup: Siegel edges Dragons with one hit

Siegel baseball edged Collierville 1-0 on Saturday afternoon in the Warrior Spring Classic, despite finishing with just one hit.

Senior Patrick Reed led off the seventh with a bunt single. Teammate Jay Melton then reached second on an error, moving Reed to third. Carson Lester then drove in Reed with a sacrifice fly.

Blake Benefield collected the complete-game shutout. Benefield struck out two, walked none and gave up five hits.

Oakland 3, Ooltewah 1

Justin Wilson went 3-for-4 for the Patriots, who had seven hits in the game.

Sam Douglas had a double and drove in all three runs, including a bases loaded walk.

Devin Cairo relieved starter Nolan Pearson in the fourth inning and collected the win. He had three strikeouts.

Ooltewah senior and MTSU signee Kevin Dupree was 2-for-3 for the Owls with an RBI.

Riverdale 9, Kokomo (Ind.) 0

Riverdale 7, Centennial 1

Aron Aydelott (2-0) and Dylan King (2-1) each earned a win, and Derek Belcher got a save.

Kaleb Swayze had two hits and two RBIs against Centennial.

Jordan McNeal had two hits and two RBIs versus Kokomo, and Trevin Ayers went 2-for-3.

Riverdale improved to 11-5.

La Vergne 6, Brighton 1

Chris Johnson picked up the win on the mound and added two hits and an RBI from the plate for La Vergne (11-1).

Matt Lyons, Christian Acklin and Guner Reynolds had two RBIs each.

Blackman 7, Rossview (Ala.) 0

Zane Glass tossed a complete game shutout, allowing only six hits and striking out four, in a win over Rossview.

Glass had a double and RBI. Austin Mosier and Caleb Harrison added two hits apiece.

John Michael Neal took the loss for Blackman against Houston. Ian Mitzfeld led the Blaze with three hits and two RBIs.

Softball

Lincoln Co. 4, Siegel 0

Siegel 2, Moore Co. 0

Leah Newsome split a pair of pitching starts. She took the loss to Lincoln County and blanked Moore County for the victory.

Karalynne Levi had a hit and scored a run in the win for Siegel (15-8).

Riverdale 17, Mt. Juliet 7

Riverdale 8, W. House 0

Pinch hitter Emily Thompson hit a two-run home run for the first varsity homer of her career for Riverdale.

The Lady Warriors pounded out 15 hits in the five-inning win. Kristin Uselton collected the win, giving up three hits and three runs in three innings.

Caroline Faulkner had six strikeouts in the shutout of the Lady Blue Devils.

Grove City (Ohio) 1

Hannah McCravy (8-2) pitched a one-hitter for the Lady Patriots (19-7) and struck out three.

Abby Sargent had a hit and two RBIs for the Lady Patriots. Teammate Chelsey Kirby had a double and an RBI.

Hueytown (Ala.) 2, Smyrna 0

Makenzie Prince gave up just two runs, but the Lady Bulldogs (19-6) couldn’t get any run support.

La Vergne 12, Hardin Co. 0

Matt Lyons improved to 3-0 for the season and hasn’t given up a run in 18 innings on the mound.

Kyle Taylor was 2-for-4 at the plate with five RBIs and a double.

Guner Reynolds was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Carson Thigpen was 2-for-2 with two RBIs.
