THE WINNER: Andrea Kindrick
School: Russellville (Ark.)
Athletic achievement: She led the Cyclones (20-7) to the Class 6A state championship this past season. Kindrick posted a 20-4 record with a 0.16 ERA and 287 strikeouts in 135 innings pitched. She allowed 42 hits and 14 walks with 13 shutouts and six perfect games. At the plate, the two-time Class 6A First Team All-State selection batted .475 with four home runs, 10 doubles, 29 RBI and an .847 slugging percentage.
Academic excellence: Kindrick has maintained a 3.95 GPA.
Exemplary character: A member of the Russellville High student council, she has volunteered locally at an animal shelter, on behalf of the Salvation Army and as a youth softball coach.
“Andrea Kindrick is the real deal,” said Debbie Clark, head coach of Bryant (Ark.). “She will be pitching in the SEC one day — no doubt in my mind. She is fun to watch, especially if she’s not pitching against you. It is hard to believe she is a sophomore.”
THE FUTURE: Kindrick will be a junior next year.
