Arlington High School’s star distance-running duo of Bella Burda and Sibby Hanson can now call themselves state champions.
Burda, a sophomore, won the girls 3,000-meter race this morning at the New York State Public High School Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships at Cornell University’s Barton Hall in Ithaca, hours after Hanson, a senior, won the boys 3,200 run.
Both entered the meet as the top seeds in their respective races.
Burda finished in a winning time of 9:56.78, while Hanson finished in 9:14.33.
Hanson’s time was over six seconds faster than the next finisher. He began to pull away from the field two-thirds into his run and finished his final 400-meters in 63.9 seconds.
Pawling’s Matt Jorgensen finished in eighth in the boys race with a time of 9:28.88.
