The 2012-13 area girls’ basketball teams produced two league titles, five district winners, four regional championships and two state semifinal appearances.
Needless to say, it was a strong year for local girls’ basketball teams.
While there were some terrific players on some great teams, only two squads advanced all the way to the Michigan State University Breslin Center for the state semifinals in Athens and Climax-Scotts. And for leading their teams to that big stage, Athens coach Calvin Quist and Climax-Scotts coach Dana Perrin have been named Enquirer All-Area Girls’ Basketball co-Coaches of the Year.
Quist and Perrin headline the 2013 Enquirer All-Area squad, as selected by area coaches and the Enquirer sports staff.
Joining Quist from Athens is Audrey Oswalt and Chantel Davenport, while Perrin also had a couple members of her team honored in Destiny Froberg and Stephanie Cochran.
After advancing to the state quarterfinals for the second straight year, Marshall earned two All-Area selections in Tierra Orban and Sarah Huffman.
For helping Delton Kellogg win its first regional in program history, Mallory Sewell and Brooke Martin were named to the squad.
Olivet, winners of the Kalamazoo Valley Association for the sixth straight season, posted multiple All-Area members in Hayley Walkowski and Allison Kirk.
Rounding out the team are Bellevue’s Janelle Kuiper, Coldwater’s Mackenzie Galloway, Colon’s Shaunta Adams and Gull Lake’s Jori Fell.
