GREEN COVE SPRINGS, Fla. — Clay High School junior J.T. Turner is our athlete of the week. J.T. is a standout football and baseball player for the Blue Devils.
Turner is also a very good student who is part of Clay’s criminal justice program. Whenever he hangs up the cleats, he hopes to become a lawyer or police officer.
This Friday at 1 p.m., J.T. and his Blue Devils teammates will be playing Plantation American Heritage for the FHSAA Class 5A football state championship. Not many people thought Clay would get this far.
In the second round of the playoffs, they outlasted Bishop Kenny by a score of 74-73. The following week, quarterback Wes Weeks threw the game-winning touchdown pass to Turner as time expired to give Clay a 9-7 win over previously unbeaten Pensacola Catholic.
