Bad weather wipes out most of Courier News slate of football games

An already jumbled high school football schedule received a jolt due to inclement weather Thursday night, as most of the area’s games were postponed, except for a pair of early kickoffs in Union County and one in Somerset.

Some action got underway and was halted, while other games never even got started. In action that did start, Scotch Plains-Fanwood scored twice in the final four minutes of the third quarter to take a 13-7 lead over Governor Livingston. The Raiders added a third touchdown midway through the fourth stanza to go up 20-7 before the skies opened up and postponed the remainder of the game to Friday at 4 p.m.

South Plainfield led New Brunswick, 13-7, after the first quarter, and the game will be resumed at 4 p.m. Friday.

Most of the slate was pushed back until Saturday, but two games will be played in their entirety Friday. Bernards travels to Dayton and North Hunterdon travels to Linden — both 4 p.m. kickoffs.

Saturday’s games include: North Plainfield at A.L. Johnson (7 p.m.); Union at Bridgewater-Raritan (8 p.m.); Metuchen at Dunellen (8 p.m.) and Pingry at Roselle Park (8 p.m.).

Cranford will visit Watchung Hills for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday. Montgomery will play at Ridge at 2 p.m. and Summit visits Somerville at 2 p.m., also on Sunday.

Bound Brook will pay a trip to Manville on Monday for a 7 p.m. kickoff, and Piscataway at Edison is still to be determined.
