The Ballard girls’ basketball team stepped nearer its second tournament title in the past week, defeating Jeffersonville and Bloomington South on Friday night in the Floyd Central Shootout.
Ballard will take on tournament host Floyd Central (4-6) in the championship game at 1 p.m. today.
The Lady Bruins (8-1) defeated Jeffersonville 40-37 and Bloomington South 38-35.
Drea Matchen had 14 points and Javonna Layfield 15 rebounds in Ballard’s victory against Jeffersonville (7-3). Taylor Sykes scored 11 points to lead the Red Devils.
Matchen had 13 points and Layfield nine points and 10 rebounds against Bloomington South (9-2). Lauren Whitlatch, who played sparingly in the first half because of foul trouble, scored 13 of her 15 points in the second half for the Panthers.

at Springfield, Mo.
Assumption 35, Stockton (Mo.) 34: Molly Steinmetz hit two free throws with 1.2 seconds remaining to lift the Rockets (5-4) over Stockton. Nora Kiesler scored 14 points for Assumption, which will play Parkville (Mo.) today.

At Mercer County
Boyle County 82, Male 61: The Rebels (8-2) made 31 of 41 free throws to beat the Lady Bulldogs (4-4). Emmie Harris paced Boyle County with 21 points. Male was just 9 of 27 from the free-throw line. The Lady Bulldogs, who will next face Powell County, were led by Taylor Jackson’s 19 points.

Presentation 52, Scott 50: Aliyah Johnson hit two free throws with 3 seconds to go to lift the Toppers (4-5) over the Eagles (5-2) in the opening round. Johnson scored 15 points for Presentation, which won its fourth straight game.
At Charleston, S.C.
Butler 70, Ashley Ridge (S.C.) 25: Danielle Lawrence had 16 points as the Bearettes (9-1) rolled over Ashley Ridge.
Bullitt East 64, Summerville 27: Bullitt East (6-2), which got 11 points from Taylor Blain, advanced to face Goose Creek at 11 a.m. today. Zuri Green scored eight points for the Green Wave (5-4).

Beth Haven 49, Heritage Academy 34: Hayley Rader had 19 points, 21 rebounds and three blocked shots and Alexis Bowles added 16 points as the Bearcats (3-4) beat the Eagles (1-4) in a second-round game.

Henry Clay 53, Moore 13: Hannah Young scored 18 points to lead the Blue Devils (4-7) over the Mustangs (1-10).

Sayre 45, Atherton 10: Moly Manella scored 26 points for the Spartans (4-3) against the Rebels (4-5). Cori Hamberlin led Atherton with four points.
At Edmonson County
North Bullitt 60, Edmonson County 54 (OT): The Eagles (9-0) outscored Edmonson (6-3) 7-1 in overtime. Savannah Morrison scored 13 points and Katie Downey 11 for North Bullitt.
At Whitfield Academy
Doss 81, Whitesville Trinity 42: April Sanders scored 21 points to lead the Dragons (4-6). Cecelia Morris scored 12 points for the Raiders.
Silverdale Baptist (Tenn.) 67, Whitefield Academy 40: Megan Lewis scored 19 points to lead Silverdale Baptist (13-0). Moriah Tedder scored nine points for the Wildcats (3-5).
Garrard County 51, North Oldham 39: Maddie Day scored 12 points, including two 3-pointers, to lead the Lions (6-4). Cat Fiorito scored 12 points for the Mustangs (3-1).
