The basketball court isn’t the only place Brindley Theisen can play.
The St. Cloud Cathedral sophomore pitcher threw all five innings, striking out two, as the Crusaders 10-runned Mora Monday night in the first game of a doubleheader at Whitney Park.
Cathedral won the first game 10-0 and the second game 7-2 in Granite Ridge Conference action.
Andrew Lenzmeier had a bases-clearing double in the first inning to open up the scoring for Cathedral.
Teammate Brian Minks went 2-for-4 with an RBI to add to the scoring.
Cathedral continued the beating in the second game as Drew Peschel went 2-for-3 with an RBI. Thomas Imholte also had a good day at the plate, going 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Cody Cottingham went 1-for-2 with an RBI for Mora.
Little Falls 7-5, Becker 1-0
BECKER – Collin Eckman went 2-for-4 with a triple and scored three runs in the first game of a sweep of Becker.
Nate Masog went 2-for-4 with a double in Game 1 and Matt Stumpf finished the doubleheader with three hits for the Flyers (2-0 Granite Ridge, 2-0 overall).
Little Falls starters Gabe Ploof and Josh Wenzel both struck out six batters and allowed three hits in each game.
Wenzel pitched all seven innings in the second game.
Shane Busch and Matt Miller each had two hits for the Bulldogs.
ALBANY 10-3, PRINCETON 2-1
PRINCETON – The Huskies rolled behind strong starts from hurlers Josh Olmscheid and Cody Stich as they picked up a pair of wins.
Albany took advantage of 12 walks and two errors to blow out the Tigers in Game 1.
Royalton 8, Ogilvie 1
ROYALTON – Cade Stang struck out 11, walked two and allowed three hits in a complete-game win for Royalton.
Matt Silbernick sparked a five-run fifth inning with a bases-clearing triple to extend a 3-1 Royals lead.
Stang finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and and Michael Petron added two hits with an RBI for Royalton (1-1).
Upsala/Swanville 5, St. John’s Prep 0
Upsala/Swanville’s Eric Lampert managed to pitch a complete-game shutout despite allowing 10 hits against St. John’s Prep at Dick Putz Field.
The Johnnies left seven runners on base and Upsala/Swanville turned two double plays.
Caz Novak and Connor Stark-Haws both went 2-for-3 for St. John’s Prep (1-1 Prairie, 1-2 overall).
Zack Dehler took the loss and the Johnnies walked 10 batters between two pitchers.
DASSEL-COKATO 4, NEW LONDON-SPICER 3
DASSEL – Jake Smith slugged a double and a go-ahead triple to finish 2-for-3 and pace the Chargers to the win.
GLENCOE-SILVER LAKE 3, ANNANDALE 0
ANNANDALE – Cole Petersen and Levi Vorlicek combined to throw a no-hitter against Annandale. Peterson had eight strikeouts in five-plus innings.
The Panthers (2-0 Wright County, 2-1 overall) scored in the first, third and fifth innings to blank the Cardinals (0-1 Wright County, 0-1) in conference action.
PAYNESVILLE 2, MELROSE 1
PAYNESVILLE – Nathan Meyer pitched a complete game and retired the last 11 batters to propel Paynesville over Melrose in the season opener for both teams.
Senior Caleb Burris and sophomore Nick Dingmann each had a double for the Bulldogs.
EDEN VALLEY-WATKINS 5-4, B-B-E 13-1
EDEN VALLEY – Belgrade-Brooten-Elrosa (1-1) racked up seven runs in the second inning to blow out the Eagles (1-1) in the first game.
Brian Goodwin went 2-for-4 with an RBI and Matt Schmitz went 2-for-3 with a double for the Jaguars.
The Eagles retaliated in the second game as Hayden Willner struck out 10 batters, conceding one run on three hits.
Maple Lake 9-7, Kimball 3-4
MAPLE LAKE – Donnie Mavencamp went 4-for-8 with five RBI and two doubles in Maple Lake’s sweep of Kimball.
The Irish (2-0 CMC, 2-0 overall) finished with 10 hits, but nine batters walked.
Tim Konz and Mathias Hennen had two hits each for the Cubs (0-2, 0-3). Hennen had three RBI and Konz had two.
