Basketball: Hackley girls, Masters boys eye state titles; Sacred Heart bows in CHSAA final

Allie Coppola had 24 points and 18 rebounds to lead the top-seeded Hackley girls basketball team to a 49-33 win over visiting Portledge in the semifinals of the independent schools Class C state tournament at Fieldston Saturday.

Stefanie Frolo added eight points and 16 rebounds.

The defending state champion Hornets will face third-seeded Immaculata Academy in the title game Sunday at 1 p.m. at Fieldston.

Boys basketball: Mike Jurzynski scored 25 points to propel Masters to a 56-45 win over visiting Woodmere Academy in an independent schools Class C state tournament semifinal. Tim Reitzenstein added 13 points. The top-seeded Panthers will take on No. 6 Staten Island Academy in Sunday’s 11 a.m. championship game at Fieldston.

Monsignor Scanlan 59, Sacred Heart 48: In the championship game of the CHSAA Class B tournament at Fordham, Aron Baquiri scored 17 points for No. 2 Sacred Heart. John Gause added 12 points in the loss to the top seed.
