Southern Tier Athletic Conference

HEAD COACH: Rick Gallant

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guards Anthony Corby and Chris McKibben; senior forwards Kieran Sariego and Spencer Passmore.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Senior forwards Derek Fie and Alex Goforth, senior guard Nate Grant; junior guards Ryan Walker and Chris Roe; junior forward Ian Ustanik, junior guard/forward Luke Terwilliger and sophomore guard Devon Sullivan.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We are very athletic. Most of these players are two or three sport athletes. Our goal in games is to make them an athletic contest more than a basketball game. We hope to do that with a variety of presses and push the ball offensively. We are extremely deep and will use all 12 players in some form or another.”

HEAD COACH: Ryan Johnson

LAST SEASON: 7-11 (STAC West champion)

KEY RETURNERS: Junior guard Tyler Moffe, senior small forward Alex Bellardini, senior forward Eli Thomas, senior guard Tyler Lynch.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Senior forward Trevon Hamilton, junior forward Calvin Blish, senior guards Requan Wright and Rayshawn Brooks; sophomore forward Jadakis Brooks.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We are working on building a quality program with consistency, structure and discipline in all facets of life. This group of student-athletes will lay the foundation for the future of Elmira basketball for years to come. We would like to be role models first, challenge ourselves every day, defend, use our basketball IQ and focus on preparation. Key to the season is teamwork.”

HEAD COACH: Jeff Limoncelli

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guards Jake Stermer and Chris Corcoran, junior guard/forward Foster Clark.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Sophomore guard Ben Clark, junior guard/forward Devonte Gaskins.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We are in a rebuilding mode, which will present a challenge in a difficult league. I firmly believe with our continued hard work, we will get there sooner than people think. We have good kids with a lot of pride and tremendous work ethic. I am looking forward to the season.”

Interscholastic Athletic Conference

Elmira Notre Dame

HEAD COACH: Bill Hopkins

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guard/forward Tom Agan, junior guard Darius Garvin, senior guard Derek Marshall, senior guard Jonas McCaig, senior guard Hunter Thomas, senior center Nate Niles, senior center Eric Brennan.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Junior guards Parker May and Joe Prunier; senior forward Zach Jones.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “I am never very good at predicting how our team is going to do. There are too many factors that determine an outcome. I do know we have outstanding young men who are competitive and are willing to work hard to achieve any goal set.”

HEAD COACH: Brad Clark

LAST SEASON: 15-6 (won IAC South Small School title)

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guard Tanner Dupay, senior forward Joe Collins and senior center Zach Peoples.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Junior guards Cody Daugherty, Noah Bruno and Chad Sykes; junior forward Zack Pyhtila; sophomore guards Tyler Clark and Chris Foote; sophomore forward Bryce Elliott.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “With the loss of several key players from last year’s roster, projection is a rebuilding year.”

Thomas A. Edison

HEAD COACH: Lenny Smith

KEY RETURNERS: Senior forward Jake Bahantka, senior guard Joe Ducot, senior guard/forward Brandon Michaud, senior guard/forward Terrence Kunkle, senior forward Adam Shumaker.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Freshman guard Kevin Harmer, sophomore forward Chris Becker.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “Edison will rely on a mix of senior leadership and youth talent to compete this year. Five seniors return from a disappointing 2012-13 season and are hungry to get Edison back to sectionals. Combine this with talented young players and Edison has a chance to be competitive in its new division: the Large School South.”

Watkins Glen

HEAD COACH: John Fazzary

LAST SEASON: 17-3 (won IAC South Large School and overall IAC Large School titles).

KEY RETURNERS: Senior forward Tony Keough, junior forward Colin Gates, senior center Adam Tuttle, junior forward/center Keith Rekczis, senior guard Devon Bond.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Junior guards Luke Flahive, Joe Palumbo and Matt Estes; junior forward Justin Duane, senior forward Brendan Hunter, sophomore forward Justin Kelly.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We lost four starters from last year, including two quality guards. However, we do have some experience and a strong junior class. We are hoping to be competitive every night, be more consistent and be a formidable team by the second half of the season.”

HEAD COACH: Louis Judson III

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guard Dylan Perry, senior forward Ryan McFarland, senior forward Tim Sutton, senior guard Alex Uhl.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Senior guard Colton Miller, junior forward Kyle Kinsley, junior guard/forward Alex Volpe, junior forward Tanner Cantrell, sophomore point guard Peyton Miller, freshman guard Hunter Bodine, freshman guard/forward Garrett Sutryk.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: Waverly was without six of 11 players for much of the preseason because of the football team’s deep postseason run. Said Judson: “Every practice and every scrimmage we seem to be getting better. Getting back into basketball shape, getting our legs underneath us and learning how to practice continue to be some of our focuses early on. I think you’ll see a much different team in the second half of the year, after these players make the necessary adjustments to compete at the varsity level.”
