Southern Tier Athletic Conference

HEAD COACH: Mark Prutsman

KEY RETURNERS: Seniors Lindsey Prutsman, Sarah Trifoso, Megan Lewis; juniors Caitlin Price, Karissa Gurnsey, Gillian McGannon, Cierra Capo, Sydney Hollasch, Emily Baker; sophomores Catherine Quinlan, Lauren Fie, Olivia LeBaron.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Freshman Taylor Herberger

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “It’s my first year as varsity girls basketball coach. We are looking to grow the program and improve upon last year. The girls are working extremely hard and I am excited and hopeful that we can improve as the year goes on and become a team that can challenge people on a nightly basis.”

HEAD COACH: Jake Dailey

KEY RETURNERS: Senior guards Kaitlyn Weaver, McKenna Backer and Melissa Erway; junior wing Abbie Topping.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Sophomore guard Anasah Demember, sophomore wing Jaida Washington, junior guard Lauren Szerszen.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We had a strong summer program and had a very good fall preseason workout. We are looking to be more aggressive on defense and coming into this season hungry and ready to compete with the top teams in our league. Again the STAC is strong from top to bottom and this should make for some great games this year.”

LAST SEASON: 17-4 (won STAC West and Section 4 Class AA titles).

KEY RETURNERS: Junior forwards Amanda Schiefen and Katie Reasons; senior guards Ellie Leszyk, Abbey Benesh, Jen LaViola; senior forward Erin Strollo, junior guard Shannon Titus.

NEWCOMERS TO WATCH: Sophomore guards Rachel Stermer, Marianne Cites; freshman guard Tatum Benesh, freshman forward Jess Schiefen, sophomore forward Emily Smith, junior guard Kayla Tyler, junior forward Sara McCawley.

KEY LOSSES: Horseheads lost all-conference players Tess Wicks and Jen Chalk to graduation, then unexpectedly lost junior forward Marlea Nolan to a turn ACL suffered during volleyball. Nolan was one of the team’s starters last season.

COACH’S OUTLOOK: “We have all the pieces to eventually make a successful run. With seven returners and seven newcomers, we have kids in two different spots right now. Once everyone catches up and gets on the same page, we should put an excellent product on the floor. The JV was 16-2 last year and has many girls who will factor into our game plans this year. With great leadership and unselfish team play, I think this team has the potential to make a lot of great things happen.”

It is an awesome opportunity to coach for a high school that is rich in both tradition and success. Every young lady in the program has high expectations that inspire each coach to live up to them.”
