High school football fans can make their plans for the 2014 Landers Battle on the Border High School Football Showcase with the new 14-team schedule released Friday.
The “Bachman Bowl” kicks off the three-day event in Independence Stadium with John Bachman’s Calvary crew facing son Thomas Bachman’s Bastrop bunch on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 7 p.m.
“Thank you to Shreveport for this event and the way it’s grown because anybody that knows high school football can recognize the names here,” said John Bachman, Sr., who also has two sons (Jason and John Jr.) on his Calvary staff. “I wish we weren’t playing Thomas … I know Mom will be a Bastrop mom that day.
“But I understood why (the organizers) wanted this matchup. I would think it would sell tickets and be a good (public relations) move.”
Calvary (Division III) is one three state champions to play in the 2014 showcase, which will be the fourth annual showcase since it started in 2011.
El Dorado, the Arkansas 6A champions, will face Byrd (Division I runner-ups) on Friday at 8:30 p.m.
Acadiana, the 5A champs, will take on Lufkin (Texas) on Saturday at 5 p.m.
The Friday early game (6 p.m.) features St. Thomas More and Gladewater (Texas).
The first of four games Saturday pits Parkway (5A runner ups) against Marshall (Texas) at 11 a.m.
After Acadiana-Lufkin, Olive Branch (Miss.) plays John Tyler at 5 p.m. and Neville takes on Longview at 8 p.m. to finish Saturday’s action.
