Two teams were knocked from the unbeaten ranks in girls volleyball Wednesday.
Visiting Barnegat rallied for a 25-22 win over Central in Shore Conference Class B South. Host Toms River North blanked Jackson Memorial 2-0 in Class A South.
Central won the first game 25-18. Barnegat (9-2, 6-0) captured the second 25-16.
Nikki Casertano led the Bengals with three kills, 12 digs and 25 assists. Sara Ridgway added four aces, 15 kills, two blocks and seven digs. Meg Nichols contributed eight kills and 10 digs. Hannah Fitzmaurice added five kills and two blocks.
For Central (5-1, 5-1), Audra Didzbalis put up five digs and 14 assists. Katlyn Kuster added nine kills, two blocks and four digs. Danielle Myers contributed two aces, two kills, three blocks, four digs and four assists.
The Mariners (7-1, 5-1) dropped the Jaguars to 9-1, including 4-1 in Class A South.
Sydney Binkley had 24 assists for Toms River North. Danyelle Morales had 21 digs. Aubrey Binkley notched 10 kills and six blocks. Amanda Wrightson finished with seven kills and three blocks. Chandler Schalhoub added five kills and seven digs.
For Jackson, Brianna Roath notched six kills and 18 digs. Karolina Sieczkowski added seven kills and 14 digs.
TR SOUTH 2, TR EAST 0: Anmada O’Neill’s four kills, four digs and two assists led the host Indians (5-3, 2-3) past the Raiders (2-6, 1-5) in Class A South.
Andrea Eckholt added six kills and five digs. Emily Sweeny contributed five kills and three digs.
Jaclynn Sweeney keyed the Raiders’ effort with two aces, eight digs and six assists. Liz Kolesar added two aces, five kills and six digs.
In boys soccer
FREEHOLD TOWNSHIP 2, CBA 1: Brian Dziobak stepped up and netted two penalty kicks, one in the first half and one in the second, leading the Patriots (7-6, 6-2) over the Colts (5-2-1, 5-2-1) in a Class A North game. The Patriots were awarded the second PK after Nick Facendo was taken down in the box in the 42nd minute.
Colin Mulligan scored the first goal for the Colts in the 12th minute.
MANALAPAN 2, MIDD. SOUTH 0: Chris Colen scored the first goal in the 31st minute, leading the Braves (6-1, 6-1) over the Eagles (2-7, 1-6) in a Class A North game. Brian Dolan scored in the 75th minute off an assist from Adam Weisberger.
LACEY 2, BRICK MEMORIAL 0: Eric Reitmeyer scored both goals for the Lions leading them to a Class A South win over the Mustangs.
Reitmeyer scored 26 seconds into the game off an assist from Robert Biele. Reitmeyer also netted another one in the second half off an assist from Nick Iapicco.
In girls soccer
RB CATHOLIC 1, MANASQUAN 0: Christina Balacco netted a goal from 8 yards, leading the Caseys (7-2, 6-2) over the Warriros (1-4-1, 0-4-1) in a Class A Central game. Led by Keira Farle, the Caseys defense allowed just two shots on goal, leading to a shutout from keeper Jacqueline Robinson.
BRICK MEMORIAL 3, LACEY 1: Olivia Nazzaro scored two goals in the seocnd half, leading the Mustangs (4-4, 4-3) over the Lions (4-5, 3-5) in a Class A South game. Madison Farley scored for the Mustangs in the 11th minute off an assist from Taylor Schaad.
MATER DEI PREP 1, ST. ROSE 0: Claire Begley scored the winning goal in the second half, leading the Seraphs (5-1-2) over the Purple Roses (7-1-1) in a Class B Central game. Begley scored off an assist from teammate Maria Carroll. Katie Viscardi recorded a shut out for the Seraphs, finishing with 16 saves.
Teaghan Darling netted the only goal for the Lions in the 40th minute.
In girls tennis
RARITAN 4, A.L. JOHNSON 1: Cassie McGuirl (7-5, 6-4) and Valerie Giordano (6-2, 7-6 (7-5) each clinched points in singles, as the ninth-seeded Rockets (4-8) defeated No. 8 A.L. Johnson (3-4) in the opening round of the Central Jersey Group II tournament.
Raritan swept doubles competition, as Michelle Guidice and Angela Salvemini won 6-2, 6-1 at first doubles and Stepahnie Facendo and Kaitlyn Hand won 6-0, 6-4 at second doubles.
Raritan moves on to play top-seeded Holmdel on Oct. 8. Holmdel won its seventh Shore Conference Tournament championship with a 4-1 victory over Freehold.
In field hockey
SOUTHERN 5, TR NORTH 2: Bri Angellella scored three goals, one via a penalty stroke, and Nicole Andriani made four saves as the Rams (5-2-1) defeated the Mariners (4-5-1) in a Class A South game. Toms River North’s Courtney Copeland and Emma Downs each scored a goal and Kaitlin Maguire made two saves.
