Berlin got off to a fast start and then held off a torrid Sheboygan Falls comeback to collect a 57-53 win over the Falcons in a WIAA Division 3 regional final on Saturday night.
The third-seeded Indians (17-7) jumped out to a 23-13 lead at the end of the first quarter and then led by as many as 14 points, but the Falcons came storming back in the second half.
Second-seeded Sheboygan Falls narrowed the gap to five by the end of the third quarter and then tied the game twice in the fourth quarter before the Indians were able to surge back ahead.
The Indians sealed the game at the free-throw line, hitting 18-of-23 attempts for the game to earn the school’s first regional title since the 1990s.
Callie Walker finished with 22 points, 17 in the first half, to lead Berlin, while Maddie Koster added 16 and Laura Trochinski added 14. Only four players scored for Berlin, which will face Oostburg at West Bend in a sectional semifinal on Thursday.
Steph Hasler led the Falcons with 22.
