Bernards wins sectional title; New Providence falls

Kristen Coury scored four minutes into the second overtime Thursday and the Bernards High School girls soccer team captured the NJSIAA North 2 Group II title with a 3-2 victory over Parsippany.

Alexa DeMartino, who picked up the assist on the game-winning goal, scored once during the first half and again 8:00 into the second period to give the Mountaineers a 2-0 lead.

Parsippany got on the board with 14 minutes left, before notching the equalizer with 7:00 left to force overtime.

Bernards, which hadn’t won a sectional title since 2008, will face Pascack Hills or Ramsey in Tuesday’s Group II semifinals, 5:30 p.m. at Ridge High School

North 2 Group I

Glen
Ridge 1, New Providence 0: Tomison Kennedy’s first-half goal was more than New Providence could overcome, as the fourth-seeded Pioneers fell to second-seeded Glen Ridge. Jen Maluso made 10 saves for New Providence.

Central Group IV

Thursday’s scheduled game between Montgomery and Hunterdon Central was postponed to 1 p.m. Friday at Hunterdon Central High School.
