Blackman, Siegel earn 7-AAA baseball wins


Blackman’s baseball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to beat Oakland 4-2 in District 7-AAA action on Tuesday night.

Hunter Martin threw a complete game, allowing five hits and two earned runs. He walked none and struck out six. Erik Eilers was the hard-luck loser, allowing three runs in six innings.

Jamie Kent had two doubles and three RBIs for Blackman, while Austin Mosier had two hits and an RBI. Sam Douglas had two hits and an RBI for Oakland.

Siegel 4, Riverdale 2

Zach Williams picked up the win in relief for the Stars (12-12, 4-6).

Starting pitcher Ryan Shultz had two hits, including a double, and a sacrifice fly.

Brady Puckett hit a two-run homer, his first of the season for Riverdale (16-9, 7-3). Trevor Sutton (4-1) suffered his first loss of the season.

La Vergne 6, Smyrna 1

Chase Burkett threw a complete game, allowing just three hits. Dustin Bills had three hits, includign a double and two RBIs to lead La Vergne (18-4, 6-4). Christian Acklin and Matt Lyons had two hits and an RBI, and Mario Diaz had a hit and an RBI.

Central Magnet 7, Livingston Academy 2

Austin Worley picked up the win to move to 3-1, allowing one earned run while striking out eight. He also hit a two-run home run. John Messick added two hits for the Tigers (12-13, 6-2).


Riverdale 8, Oakland 6

Riverdale catcher Sarah Higgins had a home run and five RBIs, and Kristin Uselton picked up the win. The Lady Warriors improved to 21-5, 3-1 in District 7-AAA, while Oakland fell to 21-9 and 2-3.

Siegel 7, Blackman 2

Leah Newsome struck out eight and picked up the win for Siegel (18-9, 3-1). Karalynne Levi went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, and Jensen McElroy went 2-for-3 with one RBI.

Smyrna 3, La Vergne 0

Makenzie Prince struck out 10 and earned the win for the Bulldogs (23-6, 5-1). Kelsey Russell was 2-for-2 with a double, Rey Allen was 2-for-2 with an RBI and Ariel Hicks was 1-for-1 with an RBI.


Lavergne 4 Riverdale 0

Christian Rivera scored two goals for La Vergne, while Joel Romero and Luis Vargas had one apiece.

Boys Tennis

MTCS 5, Columbia 4

Mark Claiborne, Kip Kahler and Thomas Goodwyn won in singles for MTCS, while the doubles teams of Claiborne/Kahler and Goodwyn/Reed Siler were victorious.

Girls Tennis

MTCS 4, Columbia 3

Juliann Peterson, Jennia Hixon and Hannah Pitts won in singles for MTCS, while Chandler Adams/Hixon won in doubles.

Middle School Baseball

Rock Springs 6, Stewarts Creek 5

Daniel Freeman and Jonathan Pelleaux had two hits for Stewarts Creek (12-4, 7-3).
