Blackman sophomore golfer Tanner Owens won low-medalist honors by shooting a 70 during the Keith Maxwell Memorial Invitational at Warren County Country Club Tuesday.

He also recorded his first hole-in-one with a six iron on the par-3, 14th hole.

“It started off rough,” Owens said of his round. “The greens were really fast and it took me a while to get used to them but once I got used to them, I really started to play well and then I had the hole in one.”

Blackman and Siegel competed in the event as teams, but neither team placed. Siegel shot 318. Blackman shot 322.

Blackman, Siegel girls’ teams compete at invitational: Cailyn Johnston shot an 82 and Chealsea Spivey shot an 85 to help the Lady Blaze shoot a 167 in the Keith Maxwell Memorial Invitational.

The Lady Stars shot a 183 and were led by Melissa Kiker (86) and Nicole Chandler (97).

Central Magnet 153, Friendship 166: The Tigers were led by Colton Miller (33), Austin Tipton (38) and Michael Chan (40).

Jordan Reynolds and T.C. Hayes shot 42 during the nine-hole match at Hunters Point Golf Course.

Soccer

Central Magnet 2, MTCS 0: The Lady Tigers scored two second-half goals to defeat the Lady Cougars. Goalie Leah Stinson recorded 14 saves for MTCS in defeat.

Blackman 6, La Vergne 0: The Lady Blaze were led by Meagan Woods, who scored two goals and recorded one assist. Sarah Grace Bogle added one goal and one assist. Colleen Kennedy, Elisabeth Weber and Alex Creek scored one goal each too.

Oakland 2, Franklin 0: Oakland goalie Emma Grace Goldman recorded the shutout, as the Lady Patriots scored one goal in each half. A.B. Hawkins and Brianna Sears scored the goals.

Volleyball

MTCS 3, Eagleville 2: The Lady Cougars defeated their district rival 25-21, 26-24, 19-25, 6-25, 15-13.

Rachel Mullen finished with three aces and 46 assists. McKenzie McKnight added four digs and 27 kills.

Riverdale 3, Lipscomb 0: The Lady Warriors improved to 13-2 on the season (2-1 District 7-AAA) with a straight-set win against the Lady Mustangs.

Kirsten Inman recorded 35 assists and also led the team with six aces. Ashleigh Lozier led the team with 14 kills.

Late Friday

Lancaster Christian wins opener: The Knights (1-0) defeated Jo Byrns (0-1) 38-36 Friday, Aug. 30 in Cedar Hill, Tenn.

The Knights were led by quarterback Matt Williams, who combined for 373 total yards and five touchdowns.

The Knights’ receiving corps was led by Jared Beard and Hayden McKee, while the team’s leading rusher was Tevin Driver, who rushed for 103 yards.

“I’m really proud of how the receivers stepped up too tonight,” coach Rocky Peeler said.

“I thought Jared Beard had a great night both offensively and defensively. I’m really pleased with the entire team’s effort. It was a great team victory.”

The Knights next game is at 7 p.m. Friday at home against Memphis Academy of Health Sciences.
