Karl Blum went the distance, striking out seven, walking four and yielding just two hits and one earned run to lead eighth-seeded Toms River North past No. 9 Cherokee, 11-4, in NJSIAA South Jersey Group IV first-round action Tuesday.
Julian Feliz finished 3-for-4 on the day, while Mike Miraglia was 2-for-3. Both Feliz and Miraglia scored twice and knocked in two runs for the Mariners (17-5).
A four-run bottom of the second, highlighted by a Carmen Sclafani two-RBI single, broke the game open for good for Toms River North. That hit, which scored Miraglia and Feliz, made the score 4-1.
MONMOUTH 2, POINT BORO 0: Tom Broyles had a perfect game for 51/3 innings and struck out 11 and walked none for his third straight shutout and John Bonczyk had a sacrifice fly in the second and Mike Casper a run-scoring single in the fifth as the No. 8 seed Falcons (14-9) defeated the No. 9 seed Panthers (12-11) in Central II.
It was the second straight game Broyles (7-0) has carried a no-hitter into the late innings. He had a no-hitter for six innings in a 2-0 win and wound up with a one-hitter in a 2-0 win over Monsignor Donovan in a Shore Conference Tournament preliminary-round game on May 15.
WALL 4, MIDD. NORTH 0: Junior right-hander Tyler Swiggart pitched perfect ball for 5 1⁄3 innings and wound up with a one-hitter to improve to 7-0 as the No. 2 seed Crimson Knights (20-3) defeated the No. 15 seed Lions (8-14) in Central III.
POINT BEACH 8, SOUTH HUNTERDON 3: John VanShoick threw five scoreless innings of one-hit relief to pick up the win and Ryan Prima’s two-out, two-run double capped a four-run fifth and gave the No. 5 seed Garnet Gulls (11-9) the lead for good in their win over the No. 12 seed Eagles in Central I.
BRICK 7, EAST BRUNSWICK 3: Trevor Mastria pitched five innings of two-hit ball and Nick Zbranak had a two-run single in the first inning as the No. 6 seed Green Dragons (13-10) defeated the No. 11 seed Bears (15-11) in a Central Jersey Group IV game.
MANCHESTER 11, CEDAR CREEK 4: Senior right-hander Ed White scattered six hits, struck out 10 and went 2-for-3 with three RBI and Mitch Stage was 2-for-3 with four RBI as the No. 7 seed Hawks (12-9) defeated the No. 10 seed Pirates (13-10) in South II.

CBA 14, MONROE 1: Joe Dudek hit three home runs and drove in 10 runs as he led the Colts (19-4) to the nonconference victory. Dudek hit a three-run home run in the first, a three-run home run in the second and a grand slam in the third. This is the second time this season he’s had three home runs and 10 RBI in a game.
