The fourth-seeded Arlington High School boys basketball team fell to fifth-seeded Mahopac, 62-59 in double overtime, in a Section 1 Class AA quarterfinal in Freedom Plains on Wednesday.
“I was real proud of our guys,” Arlington coach Matt Hoyt said. “We got down 10 points early and there’s no quit in this team, like it’s been all year.”
Arlington had a 54-51 lead with 4.4 seconds left in the first overtime, when Brendan Hynes converted on a 3-point play to send the game to a second extra session.
With his team ahead 60-59 in the second overtime, Mahopac’s Ryan Simone hit two free-throws with 50.9 seconds left, and Arlington was unable to score for the rest of the contest.
Ericco Feaster led the home team with 14 points, while Jayson Leigh scored 13 and Mike Duffy added 12.
Arlington, which boasts nine seniors, finished its season with a 16-4 overall record.
“We fell a game short of our goal, but I’m extremely proud of these guys,” Hoyt said. “It’s a great bunch of guys. It has been an awesome year. I’m just proud to be their coach.”
