Regardless of its seed, the Haldane High School boys basketball team was confident heading into its Section 1 Class C quarterfinal at No. 3 Solomon Schechter on Wednesday.
“We played a very, very difficult schedule, playing a lot of (Classes) B and A schools,” Haldane coach Joe Virgadamo said after his No. 6 Blue Devils advanced to the semifinals with a 77-47 romp. “As coaches say, ‘A hard schedule pays off in the end.’ I’m glad we proved that tonight.”
Haldane (6-13) will face the winner of the quarterfinal between No. 2 Palisade Prep and No. 7 Alexander Hamilton on Monday at the Westchester County Center. For Haldane, it’s a fourth consecutive trip to White Plains for the semifinals.
Five Blue Devils scored in double figures, led by Ryan Dahlia and Matt Forlow, each with 13 points, while Chris McGovern scored 11, and Ryan Koval and Peter Hoffman each contributed 10.
Virgadamo highlighted the efforts of Dahlia — “He’s just a workhorse” — who had 10 rebounds, as well as Forlow, whose offensive burst in the third quarter helped Haldane grow its 12-point halftime lead to 51-34 heading into the fourth.
