Our Lady of Lourdes High School’s boys basketball team led most of the game and held on to defeat Arlington, 60-59, in the Dutchess County Basketball Coaches Association Holiday Tournament at home on Friday.
The win was Lourdes’ third straight to begin the season. Lourdes’ Kyle Santoro led all scorers with 20 points.
“We were able to make some plays down the stretch,” said Lourdes coach Jim Santoro, Kyle’s father. “We were fortunate to be able to convert on a couple of things.”
Justin Rhynders added 14 points for Lourdes.
Arlington coach Matt Hoyt said Friday’s performance was one of the better outings his Admirals (1-3) have had this season.
“We’re off to a slow start this year, but this was one of our better games for what we did defensively in the second half, holding a good Lourdes team to 26 points,” Hoyt said. “I think we made progress and we’re getting better, but we’ve got to protect the basketball. We had 66 possessions and we made 22 turnovers. We’re trying to force it a little too much.”
Brendan Sunday led Arlington with 16 points. Kyle Flanagan had 11 points.
Lourdes faces defending tournament champion Franklin D. Roosevelt at 7:45 p.m. today. Arlington faces Roosevelt at 7:45 p.m. on Sunday
