Chris O’Reilly’s foul-line jumper with 3.5 seconds remaining capped a rally from a seven-point deficit over the final 2:30 of regulation and gave the host Colts Neck boys basketball team a 46-45 win over Middletown South on Friday night in a Shore Conference Class A North season-opening game.
O’Reilly’s shot came after the Cougars gained possession with 17.9 seconds remaining. Colts Neck called timeout immediately after Josh Brown grabbed the rebound of the second of two missed free throws by the Eagles.
O’Reilly received the ball with 10 seconds left and went one-on-one. He had seven of his 11 points in the final quarter. The Cougars outscored the Eagles, 12-4, in the final 2:30.
Lloyd Daniels Jr., the son of former NBA player Lloyd Daniels, also had 11 points for Colts Neck.
Middletown South’s Matt Gray had a game-high 19 points. He had six in the third quarter and 10 in the second half.
NEPTUNE 56, FREEHOLD 52: Senior guard Shakeem Richardson’s game-high 22 points led Neptune past Freehold in the regular-season opener for both clubs in Class B North.
Richardson rained home four shots from downtown for the Scarlet Fliers. Senior guard Myles Mooney added 15 points.
Senior guards Danny Parr and Donald Allen led the Colonials with 19 and 10 points, respectively.
FREEHOLD TWP. 58, MARLBORO 53: Mike Alexander had 13 points and Jordan McGill and Kyle Czajkowski each added nine points as the No. 10 Patriots (1-0, 1-0) defeated the Mustangs (0-1, 0-1) in a Class A North game. Marlboro’s George Elghoul had a game-high 16 points and Justin Markowitz added 15 points.
CBA 71, MANALAPAN 53: Senior guard Louie Pillari netted a game-high 22 points, leading the host Colts past the Braves in Class A North.
Junior forward Jack Laffey added 17, spicing his showing with three shots from beyond the arc. Junior forward Kyle Mullin keyed the Braves with 21 points.
LAKEWOOD 70, MANCHESTER 48: Amir Tyler scored a game-high 21 points to lead the No. 3 Piners past the Hawks in Class B South.
Mo Diawara had 11 of his 13 points in the fourth quarter when Lakewood pulled away by outscoring Manchester, 27-14.
JACKSON LIBERTY 64, BARNEGAT 53: James Sofield and Mike Healy combined for 43 points to lead the Lions (1-0, 1-0) to the win over the Bengals (0-1, 0-1) in a Class B South game.
Sofield had 23 points and Healy added 20.
MANASQUAN 59, RED BANK CATHOLIC 31: Senior guard Jack Fay scored a contest-best 29, including 15 in the first half, leading the host Warriors past the Caseys in Class A Central.
Fay netted 10 in a 17-6 first-quarter assault in which he connected on two shots from downtown. The Warriors led 28-11 at halftime. Senior guard-forward Tommy Toole added nine points, eight assists and five steals. Sophomore guard Jack Sheehan contributed nine points and six assists.
Eddie Hahn led the Caseys with 11 points, six in the fourth quarter.
POINT BEACH 75, KEANSBURG 23: Senior guard Matt Farrell and senior forward Dom Uhl each scored 19, leading the No. 1 visiting Garnet Gulls past the Titans in Class B Central.
Senior forward Noah Yates added 11.
KEYPORT 83, ASBURY PARK 54: Propelled by senior forward Alex Thomson’s game-high 29 points, 15 rebounds and 11 assists, the host Red Raiders bested the Blue Bishops in Class B Central.
Thomson erupted for 13 third-quarter points, keying a 29-13 assault that sent the Red Raiders in front 64-35. Sophomore teammates Travis Alvarez and Zach Ochs each finished with 14 points and eight rebounds.
Sophomore guard Jeff Sheard added 11 points, including eight in the second quarter, leading a 24-7 avalanche that put Keyport in front 35-22. Senior guard Kevin Walsh contributed 10 points.
Freshman forward Cishuime Simmons and senior forward Robert Barksdale led the Blue Bishops with 12 points each. Junior guard Tyquis Davis added 10 points.
JACKSON MEM. 49, BRICK MEM. 40: Junior guard C.J. Blue scored 15, leading the host Jaguars past the Mustangs in Class A South.
Jackson junior guard Gino Palummo scored each of his seven in the third quarter, keying a 16-13 output that put the Jaguars up 39-29. Senior guard Sean O’Brien led the Mustangs with 10, seven in the fourth quarter.
TR NORTH 61, BRICK 39: Ted Thelemague scored 19 points and Evan Martin added 17 to lead the Mariners past the visiting Green Dragons in Class A South.
The Mariners sped to a 27-13 halftime lead as Martin hit for eight points. Thelemague scored seven in a 15-7 first-quarter outburst. Thelemague scored 12 in the second half, including six in the third quarter. Jordan Craig contributed 10 points, six in the third quarter.
Brian Oehme led the Green Dragons with 18 points.
ST. ROSE 63, HENRY HUDSON 28: Dan Borner’s game-high 20 points paced the visiting Purple Roses past the Admirals in Class B Central.
Nolan Slattery added 15. Senior guard-forward Jaxon Terell paced the Admirals with 14.
TR EAST 76, NEW EGYPT 31: First-year coach Jim Dempsey enjoyed a successful debut as the host Raiders best the Warriors in non-conference play.
Sophomore forward Ryan West led East with 17 points, including seven in the second quarter and secven in the final eight minutes. The Raiders sped to a 21-6 first-quarter lead as C.J. Hirschy netted each of his six points.
Jerry Caporale added seven of his nine in the first half. Hirschy handed out five assists and Nick Lorenca added five rebounds on the night.
