Fittingly, the seniors led the way.
The Spackenkill High School boys basketball team defeated visiting Rhinebeck 61-46 on Tuesday on Senior Night in a Mid-Hudson Athletic League contest.
“Our five seniors came out and set the tone in the first quarter racing out to (an) 18-6 lead,” Spackenkill coach Terry Feeley said in a statement.
Spackenkill senior Josh Riley tied for the game-high point total with 13, while also contributing 10 rebounds, four assists and two steals.
Classmate Randy Strom also scored 13 and Justin Etts added 11 points on 9-of-11 shooting at the free-throw line. Derek Lo contributed eight points, eight rebounds and three assists.
“We did a nice job of sharing the basketball, collecting 15 first-half assists,” Feeley said. The Spartans finished with 18.
Spackenkill took a 36-20 edge at the half, but the Hawks chipped away at the deficit and trailed by just six points in the fourth quarter before the Spartans rebuilt their winning margin.
Nick Hoynes’ 12 points led the Rhinebeck effort, while Hunter Brandt and Luke Matthews each made three 3-pointers, scoring 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Spackenkill improved to 10-5.
The Spartans close the regular season on Thursday at Ellenville.
Rhinebeck will host Onteora on Thursday in its regular-season finale.
