Travis Marnell and Ryan Merget provided plenty of offensive punch as the Highland High School boys basketball team defeated visiting Rhinebeck 69-49 on Tuesday.
A 6-foot-1 sophomore, Marnell scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed a career-high 12 rebounds filling in for center David George, who missed the game for family reasons. Merget, a 6-1 junior swingman, had 29 points and six rebounds. Huskies point guard Bo Garcia had eight assists.
“Travis is a very athletic kid who jumps well and he’s tough to stop on the inside,” Highland coach Mike Milliman said. “They are two very athletic kids and they had a very nice game.”
This season Highland is 7-5, only a year after the Huskies went 1-15.
“The kids work hard and they play very well together,” Milliman said.
Nick Hoynes led Rhinebeck (4-8) with 20 points. Paul Henke added 12 points.
