Brandon Variano fired a season-low round of 38 in leading the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School boys golf team to a 164-213 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory over Highland at the par-35 Apple Greens Golf Course on Monday.
“He had an exceptional round,” Roosevelt coach Kevin Hart said of his junior golfer. “His iron play was phenomenal all day long. He kept the ball in play.”
Jeff Peters added a 40 and Shawn Cimorelli had a 41 for the Presidents (5-3 overall and league). Troy Farley rounded out the scoring with a 45.
“We’ve gotten better in each match and their scores indicate that. The future is bright for FDR golf,” Hart said.
Rob Whalen led Highland with a 48, and Hunter Fauci added a 50.
Roosevelt closes out the regular season with MHAL Division 1 matches at New Paltz today and at Staatsburg’s Dinsmore Golf Course vs. Saugerties on Thursday. The Huguenots are unbeaten in the league, led by Sean Copeland and Brian Pesavento.
“New Paltz is a great team,” Hart said. “We have to keep our momentum going, shoot a low round and do our best. The kids are up for the challenge.”
