The temperature is heating up and so is the Arlington High School boys golf team.
The Admirals defeated Roy C. Ketcham 208-262 on Monday at The Links at Union Vale in LaGrangeville. Cullen Spang shot a 3-over-par 39 with six pars and three bogeys for Arlington (12-1).
“Cullen’s not a huge, physical character,” Arlington coach Marty Gaw said. “He knows that he doesn’t try to overpower the ball.”
Fellow Arlington seniors Matt Mahlke had a 40 and Ryan Mackey had a 41.
“Cullen Spang, Matt Mahlke and Ryan Mackey have been down this road before and they know where the pitfalls are, especially on their home course,” Gaw said. “We’re fortunate to be able to play at The Links, which is playing remarkably well. There are certain courses where you have to know where to go and what to avoid.”
Nick Turenchalk shot a 43 for Arlington. Junior Jared Shan scored a 45.
Ketcham’s low score was carded by Fraser Leslie, who shot a 44. Eric Bentsen shot a 52 for the Indians and Craig Leslie had a 53.
Up next for the Admirals is a trip to Quaker Hill Country Club where they will face Pawling at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Ketcham hosts John Jay at Casperkill Golf Club at 3 p.m. on Wednesday. Arlington hosts John Jay at The Links at 3 p.m. on Thursday.
