Boys golf roundup: Kyle VanWagner propels Red Hook

Kyle VanWagner fired a 4-over-par 40 to lead the Red Hook High School boys golf team to a 171-176 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory over Rondout Valley at Red Hook Golf Club on Wednesday.

“I’m happy and very pleased. We’ve got different guys scoring in each match. When you do that, you’re going to be competitive,” Red Hook coach Mike McCrudden said.

The Raiders trailed by seven strokes with one group — freshman Austin Lunstedt and sophomore Cam Hackett — left on the golf course. Lunstedt finished with a 41, and Hackett shot a 45.

Red Hook plays Highland at Apple Greens Golf Course on Tuesday.

New Paltz 158, Saugerties 175 — Sean Copeland shot a season-low for New Paltz Golf Course, a 1-under-par 35, to pace host New Paltz in the MHAL match.

Brian Pesavento and Wesley Watts each had a 39 for the Huguenots (7-0), who play Marlboro on Thursday.

Webutuck 216, Pine Plains 227 — Ahmatik Jones took medalist honors, shooting an 8-over-par 44 for visiting Webutuck at Red Hook Golf Club.

Rob Van Kleeck and Noah Kishuck shot a 55 in a losing effort at Red Hook Golf Club. Jason Conforti shot 58 and Dakota Piazzi shot a 59.

“We played well, it was probably the lowest score of the year. Webutuck is always a close match and they played well,” Pine Plains coach George Baker said.

Dover 225, Rhinebeck 232 — Medalist Steve Doolittle shot a 17-over-par 52 to lead the Dragons past the Hawks at Wingdale’s Harlem Valley Golf Course.

John Fontana and Nick Harding each shot a 53 for the Dragons.

“It is the first win of the season and we feel good about that,” Dover coach Mike Horn said.

Dover improved to 1-4. Rhinebeck fell to 0-4.
