ST. PAUL, Minn. — Alex Lovaas' two third period goals pushed The Blake School past Mound Westonka 5-2 Wednesday evening in a Minnesota state high school women's hockey quarterfinal at the Xcel Energy Center.
The victory advances the Bears into Friday's Class A state girl's hockey semifinal game at 11 a.m. at the Xcel Energy Center. Goals by Carly Bullock, Ali Hahn, and Karlie Lund gave The Blake School a 3-0 lead early in the second period. Liz Schepers goal midway through the third period brought Mound-Westonka to within 3-2, Abby Brustad had the first White Hawk tally early in the second period.
But Lovaas' two goals within a 2:38 span in the third period sealed the Bears victory. Lund and Lovaas each had three points in the game. Mound Westonka goaltender Emma Polusny made 25 saves who were also outshot 30-14. Bears goaltender Tori Johnson posted 12 saves.
The Blake School battles Red Wing for a chance to play in the state title game Saturday afternoon.
