MAPLEWOOD, Minn. — Two first period goals helped lift St. Thomas Academy past Totino-Grace in the section 4A boys hockey championship game 3-0 at Aldrich Arena in Maplewood Friday night.
The Cadets' Alex Johnson scored just 4:11 into the game and Christiano Versich added another goal at the 15:27 mark of the opening period, giving St. Thomas Academy a 2-0 lead after one period.
St. Thomas Academy's Tom Novak added the final tally 15:39 into the third period, pushing the Cadets into the state tournament. Totino-Grace goaltender Michael Larson stopped 33 of 36 shots on the night. Cadet goalie David Zevnik stopped all 21 shots he faced. St. Thomas outshot Totino-Grace 36-21.
