Boys' LIT Quarterfinals: Trinity, PRP basketball meet with both shorthanded

By

Two top-10 boys’ basketball teams will meet in Friday’s marquee quarterfinal of the Republic Bank Louisville Invitational Tournament, but neither will be at full strength.

Trinity (12-4), No. 1 in The Courier-Journal’s Litkenhous Ratings, will face No. 6 Pleasure Ridge Park in the 8:30 p.m. nightcap at Valley High.

Trinity played without senior starters Darryl Hicks (foot injury) and Sam Strothman (flu) in Wednesday’s 51-41 victory over Western, and coach Mike Szabo said Thursday that both will miss the PRP game.

The Panthers, who beat Male 63-53 on Tuesday, will be without senior guard Taywan Taylor, who is making an official football recruiting visit to Colorado State this weekend.

Trinity defeated PRP 69-52 on Dec. 22 in a consolation game of the King of the Bluegrass Holiday Classic.

A brief look at today’s other games.

* Moore (14-5) vs. Central (13-3), 4 p.m.: The Yellowjackets beat the Mustangs 59-50 on Dec. 22 for third place in the Best In Hoops Tournament at Oldham County.

* No. 2 Ballard (13-3) vs. Jeffersontown (10-6), 5:30: The Bruins have won seven in a row after Wednesday’s 80-31 rout of DeSales. Moe Hendricks scored 29 points in J’town’s 68-61 win over Doss on Tuesday.

* No. 15 Butler (12-6) vs. No. 8 Fairdale (12-4), 7: The teams met seven days ago, with Fairdale winning 72-57 behind Josh Payne’s 22 points.
