Three-time defending state champion Salesianum earned the top seed in Division I, and St. Elizabeth earned the top seed in Division II when the fields were announced for the inaugural DIAA Boys Soccer Division I and Division II state tournaments today.
Boys soccer has been split into divisions for the first time, with eight teams making the Division I field and 12 teams reaching the Division II tournament. The top four seeds in Division II will receive first-round byes.
First-round games in Division I will be played Nov. 9 as two doubleheaders at Dover and Smyrna. At Dover, No. 1 Salesianum (14-0-1) will meet No. 8 Sussex Tech (8-6-1) at noon, followed by No. 2 Cape Henlopen (14-1) vs. No. 7 St. Mark’s (8-6-1) at 2. At Smyrna, it will be No. 4 Charter of Wilmington (13-2) vs. Caesar Rodney (12-3) at 6, followed by No. 3 Appoquinimink (14-1) vs. No. 6 Dover (10-4-1) at 8.
The Division I semifinals will be played as a doubleheader at Smyrna, beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 13. The championship game will be at Smyrna at 7 p.m. Nov. 16.
In Division II, No. 1 St. Elizabeth (13-2), No. 2 Indian River (11-3-1), No. 3 St. Georges (10-4-1) and No. 4 Delmar (10-3-2) earned first-round byes.
Tower Hill will be the site of a first-round doubleheader on Tuesday, with No. 7 Archmere (8-6-1) taking on No. 10 Mount Pleasant (9-5-1) at 6, followed by No. 6 Tower Hill (9-4-2) vs. No. 11 Delaware Military Academy (7-7-1) at 8. Caravel will be the site of the other first-round doubleheader on Wednesday, with No. 5 St. Andrew’s (10-4-1) meeting No. 12 Brandywine (7-6-2) at 6, followed by No. 8 Wilmington Christian (9-5-1) vs. No. 9 McKean (9-6) at 8.
The Division II quarterfinals will be played Nov. 9 as doubleheaders at Caravel and Cape Henlopen. The semifinals will be a doubleheader at Dover beginning at 6 p.m. Nov. 13, and the Division II championship game will be played at 4 p.m. Nov. 16 at Smyrna.

Field hockey pairings
Two-time defending state champion Cape Henlopen earned the top seed when the 16-team field was announced for the DIAA Field Hockey State Tournament today.
The Vikings (14-0-1) will host No. 16 Ursuline (9-5-1) in the first round at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. Tatnall (13-2) is the No. 2 seed, followed by Delmar (14-1), which has lost to Cape Henlopen in the last two state championship games.
First-round games will be played Tuesday and Wednesday. Quarterfinal games will be played Nov. 9, with the semifinals on Nov. 12 and the championship game on Nov. 16.
