Boys soccer: Jonathan Ciago has two goals in Spackenkill win

By

Jonathan Ciago scored a pair of second-half goals Tuesday to lead the Spackenkill High School boys soccer team to a 3-1 win over visiting Ellenville in Mid-Hudson Athletic League action.

“It was a tough battle on the pitch today. We set the pace from the beginning and never looked back,” coach Manny Blanco said in a statement.

The Town of Poughkeepsie-based Spartans (3-1) took a 1-0 lead on a goal from freshman Cris Stamper 7:27 into the game.

Ellenville’s Harold Nunuvero tied the score shortly before halftime. Stamper then fed Ciago for the eventual game winner 7:38 after the break. Ciago, a senior, took a pass from Stamper and scored Spackenkill’s final goal.

“Ellenville is always a tough game and (Tuesday) was no different, credit to them for always battling,” Blanco said. “We know that when we go to them (on Sept. 26) it won’t be easy.”

Goalie Isaac Choi stopped four shots for Spackenkill.

The Blue Devils fell to 1-1.
