Nick Petschko netted his first hat trick of the season and added an assist to lead the Franklin D. Roosevelt High School boys soccer team to a 4-1 Mid-Hudson Athletic League victory over Marlboro on Tuesday.
“He possessed the ball well and created options. He has a powerful left foot. He is a pain for defenders with his speed and technical skills,” Roosevelt first-year coach Steve Nilsen said of his junior captain.
“He has a will to win and is a good leader on the field for our guys.”
Bovin Odhiambo tallied a goal and assist for the Presidents (5-1-1). For Marlboro, Michael Greaven had the goal, and Luke Mahan made six saves.
Roosevelt travels to Highland on Thursday before hosting unbeaten and MHAL Division 1 opponent Wallkill on Tuesday.
“We’re trying to keep the momentum going (after winning the Joel Tomson Memorial Cup on Saturday),” Nilsen said. “We’re focusing on Highland and getting ready for Wallkill.
“We are young with only five seniors, but the guys are competitive. The guys have bought into my system and they are moving in the right direction. I’m very happy with it.”
