Sophomore James Murphy compiled three goals and two assists while junior Justin Rodriquez netted three goals and assisted on another as the Scotch Plains-Fanwood High School boys soccer team, ranked atop the Courier News Top 10, easily dispatched Parsippany Hills, 9-0, to open its season Saturday at Wexler Field.

Eduardo Arocha, Brian Rubin and Billy Babis contributed to the onslaught with one goal each.

The Raiders will play host to Voorhees on Tuesday, before traveling to Cranford to open up Union County Conference play on Thursday.

Bernards 8, Bound Brook 0: Zach Smith scored one goal and added three assists and Danny Torres netted a pair of goals to power Bernards in Skyland Conference Valley division action.

Matt Paonessa finished with one goal and two assists for the Mountaineers (1-0). David Wieber notched one goal to go with one assist and Eddy Solis distributed two assists in the victory.

Bernal Salazar made seven saves for the Crusaders (0-1).

Plainfield 4, Southern 0: Kelvin Rivera provided two goals and one assist to power Plainfield.

Oliver Korngor and Luis Ruiz also score for the Cardinals (1-0). Miguel Hernandez dished out two assists and Juan Barron stopped just three shots for a shutout victory.

St. Joseph 2, Cranford 0: St. Joseph scored two goals early in the second half to win its season opener.

Junior Brandon Cruz scored the first on a dipping shot from 18 yards out, and Junior Toby Oluwalana finished a breakaway that was set up by sophomore Michael Echeverria. Junior keeper Brendan Wash needed just four saves for the shutout.

North Brunswick 1, Peddie 1: Nick Fareri scored the lone goal for North Brunswick in its season opener.

Shores 2, Sayreville 0: Connor Drabik made 10 saves for Sayreville (0-1).
