James Hooker scored the tying goal in the second half, and Sean Kaufman netted the game winner in the second overtime for the Spackenkill boys soccer team in Tuesday’s 2-1 victory over host Onteora in Mid-Hudson Athletic League action.
“In the first half, we came out flat and with very little energy,” Spackenkill coach Manny Blanco said. “Onteora played with lots of heart, credit to them. In the second half we played with grit and lots of pace.”
Arlington 6, Walter Panas 0 – The defending state Class AA champions from Arlington opened their season with the non-league win behind two first-half goals from David Verdis.
Dillon Ashong, Chris Shea, Pat Mogan and Gjon Ljucovic added a goal apiece for the Admirals.
“It took us a little bit to get us going and the nerves out of us. We put some pressure on them and moved the ball well at times. Overall they did a nice job,” Arlington coach Craig Sanborn said.
Roy C. Ketcham 6, Hendrick Hudson 0 — The Indians opened their season with a road shutout, with David Firiboe and Jake Keller each notching two goals.
Nick Wheeler and Connor Tarquini also scored, while Andrew Geisler had a pair of assists.
Jordan Bishop had five saves for the shutout.
Haldane 4, Pawling 0 — Jay Marchese scored twice as the visiting Blue Devils shut out the Tigers.
Aidan Draper had a goal and two assists for Haldane (1-1). Jack McCann also scored for Haldane.
Peter Hoffman made 13 saves for Haldane, while John Farrell made 11 stops for Pawling (1-1).
Highland 2, Marlboro 0 — Bogregory Garcia and Ryan Pushong scored for the Huskies.
Highland goalie Beau Forester stopped five shots, as did his Marlboro counterpart, Bryan Kuchinsky.
Arlington B 2, Putnam Valley 0 — Alex Zachoropoulous and Zachary Valckenaere tallied for the host Admirals, who shut out the Tigers for coach Aidan Topley’s first head-coaching win.
Pat Tracy made four saves for Arlington B (1-1), which visits Haldane at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday.
Wallkill 5, Franklin D. Roosevelt 0 – Sean Cray scored twice, and Pat Valiando added a goal and assist for host Wallkill in the non-league match.
Spencer Creighton stopped 17 shots in goal for Roosevelt.
John F. Kennedy Catholic 1, Our Lady of Lourdes 0 – The Town of Poughkeepsie’s Warriors fell at home, giving up the game’s lone goal in the eighth minute of the first overtime period.
Rondout Valley 1, Red Hook 0 — Zack Decker made seven saves and stopped a penalty kick in the second half, but the Raiders fell to 1-2 overall with a loss in Accord.
Red Hook hosts Washingtonville at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
